Panama  plans for  motorcycle road safety education

As the motorcycle fleet in Panama reaches 150,000 units, more than 10% of an estimated one million vehicles on the road, the transport authority has launched a road safety education plan focused on safe driving and the proper use of lanes.

“With the current price of fuel, there will be an increasing number of these types of vehicles used for daily transportation, unlike before when they were used primarily for commercial purposes. Now they will be used more for daily commuting than for commercial purposes,” reports Panama’s Transport Authority(ATTT).

The authority said that new regulations are not required, but rather strengthening driver education to prevent the increase in motorcycles from becoming a bigger problem.

“The regulations are in place right now. What needs to be done is education, so that drivers of these types of vehicles drive properly and only use the middle of the lanes for maneuvers that can be done safely.”
